We purchased this wonderful eagle dancer in New-York in 1997, in an expensive tourists shop specialized in Indian arts. This Kachina (traditional Indian doll representing a spirit) was made by a Navajo artist. I did not know that Navajos were making kachinas, as Hopis kachinas are more famous. Hopis also make kachinas representing other tribes, but I don't think this is the case here. Artist: Helene Spencer, April 7, 1996. Head and body in papier-maché. Height: 32 cm (12.8") |
